I was kind of surprised by the lack of information and guides available online to help prepare a girl's skin for her wedding day. If you're anything like me, getting a big, honking zit on the center of your forehead (or chin, in my case) the morning of the big day is a significant concern. I wouldn't say I have any serious acne or skin issues, but keeping my skin clear definitely requires upkeep. I'm not gifted in that way, by any means.
There was a ton of helpful online content on applying makeup that day, but not much on what I should do in the last few months leading up to the wedding. And makeup can only conceal so much, right? When I received an amazing $20 off a $40 purchase coupon from Sephora last week, I figured I would use it to try out a new regimen. I've always used Clinique products - when I started wearing makeup at 14, my mom took me to the Clinique makeup counter, taught me how to apply the basics, and I've been using their stuff ever since. And while I think it's a good, basic line for every day use, I wanted to amp it up a bit in these next two months. Try something new and maybe a bit more "complicated," for lack of a better word.
As always, I did my research. Because I wanted to use my coupon, I mainly focused on skincare product lines available at Sephora. My budget was somewhat flexible, as long as the price wasn't completely ridiculous, I considered it. I included some bridal skincare regimens that appeared to have the most promise below. Know that I haven't tried all of these items, but after doing my research, they appear to have the most potential for wedding day greatness.
Best for Blemishes: Murad
My best friend and Maid of Honor actually introduced me to Murad for the first time just a few months ago. The skincare line is great if you're especially prone to oily skin and acne. I am particularly fond of the Murad Acne Spot Treatment, which quickly dries out blemishes almost overnight. If you're new to the brand like I am, Sephora has a great starter kit that has a little bit of everything. If you can't find the Murad Acne Spot Treatment, then Proactive products are a fantastic alternative.
Best Investment: Clarisonic
If you want to invest in a skincare system that will last long after the honeymoon, I've heard great things about the Clarisonic PLUS Sonic Skin Cleansing System. It looks a little intense, yes, but it's actually great for daily use. I've heard that it will work particularly well for those who want to smooth out their skin and get rid of blackheads. Sephora has an expansive kit that includes the Clarisonic Plus tool and charge with two brush heads, along with Dr. Brandt Lineless Foaming Cleanser, Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel, Ole Henriksen Truth Serum and Perricone MD Face Finishing Moisturizer.
Celebrated (and trendy) Skincare: Kate Somerville
This skincare line was developed by well-known specialist, Kate Somerville, as a result of the issues she came across on a daily basis with her high profile customers at her skin health clinic based in Los Angeles. Somerville's products are in the press often, including Allure, Lucky, Marie Claire, InStyle and Vogue. The ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment, in particular, is supposed to be extremely effective (it is recommended that those with sensitive skin use the Gentle formula). However, you'll definitely pay for it at $85 for a 2 ounce bottle.
To Bring Out Your Natural Inner Bridal Glow: Caudalie
Caudalie uses all natural ingredients ripe with grape-derived antioxidants, in order to maintain healthy skin with a really fresh look. I think it would be a great line for any bride that doesn't typically wear a lot of makeup, and would like to emphasize her natural beauty as much as possible for her wedding day. Caudalie also has a great anti-aging skincare line.
Spa and Full Body Bridal Bliss: It's Bliss!
Although it is a spa skincare line, Bliss is a brand with a sense of humor, andit never takes itself too seriously. Out of all of my skincare choices, Bliss is definitely, in my opinion, the most well-rounded, practical choice. The fairly priced line includes a little bit of everything for any skincare problem you're looking to solve - cellulite? Get FatGirlSlim. Rough and bumpy bikini line? Try the Bliss Bikini Perfect Deluxe kit. Acne? No 'zit' Sherlock! (I was tempted to snatch this one up just because I love the name so much! ha). I've heard great things about the Bliss At-Home Oxygen Blast Set, which enables you to experience Bliss Spas' most popular treatments, the triple oxygen treatment, at home. The kit includes a Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask and Triple Oxygen+C Energizing Cream, as well as Two Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Mask Pads. If you're looking to pamper yourself a bit with an at-home spa experience, this is a great choice.
Amazing Gift Sets and Yummy Fragrances: Philosophy
I debated whether or not to include the Philosophy skincare line in my product roundup, because I actually have a bit of an allergy to it. However, I've always heard such good things about it from many people, that I'm almost positive I would be using it if it didn't give me a mild rash. What really won me over to include Philosophy though was the oh-so-cute gift sets, including The Bride gift set. The Bride includes Hope in a Jar facial cream, Purity Made Simple, Amazing Grace 3-in-1 Shampoo, Amazing Grace Firming Body Emulsion, and Amazing Grace Hand Cream, all in a cute white hat box. Philosophy also has a cute gift for your bridal party, featuring a collection of shower gels with yummy scents including wedding cake, bubbly and bridal bouquet. There are a ton of other cute sets, which you can explore here.
