Vintage Eclectic Wedding and a Christmas Proposal Tuesday, December 20, 2011 ~ 9:24 a.m.

I have two things to share with you today - (1) Macey and Chad's electic wedding shot by Chelsea Patricia Photography, and (2) Their totally adorable and super clever Christmas proposal story. I figured I would do things in chronological order, so let's get to it!

Last December, after Macey's sister got married, Macey and her boyfriend, Chad, had plans to take the trolly through Callaway Gardens in Georgia. The couple ended up meeting up with two of Chad's friends there, one of which took photos the entire time they were there. "I thought it was a little weird that she was being our paparazzi, but then again, it was our first time going to Callaway," said Macey. After a chilly ride on the trolly, the group rushed inside to warm up with hot cocoa and gingerbread cookies. They decided to go take pictures with Santa, and Chad's friends insisted that Macey and him go first.

"I just bounced up onto the platform and plopped down beside Santa. Chad was very quiet and joined me on the stage. Santa looked at me and asked, 'Well, dear, what would you like for Christmas?' I proceeded to tell him, 'There's nothing I really need.' He then asked, 'You want this guy for Christmas?' Without another thought I said, 'Oh no, I already have him!' He then asked Chad, 'Ah, well then, what would you like for Christmas?' Chad nervously said in reply, 'I would like this woman to be my wife.' My heart dropped, time froze....Then, as Santa always does, he said he had something for us. I was waiting to grab my candy cane...but instead, he pulled out a bright red box and handed it to Chad. Chad dropped to one knee and honestly, I have no clue what was said after that!"

"Elyse, Michael, and Chad had planned the proposal for three weeks; it was no impromptu trip. Elyse wasn't crashing date night and Michael didn't just happen to be in town. Elyse and Michael snuck the ring to Santa while we got hot chocolate. A trolley ride and Santa was SO us. We are both big kids who love having fun. It wasn't what I imagined at all. It was totally opposite, but exactly right. It was the perfect proposal."

Six months later, Macey and Chad were married in front of 300 friends and family at Liberty Park Baptist Church near Birmingham, Alabama. Just before the ceremony, the couple decided to have a "First Look," which was one of Macey's favorite moments of the day. Her description actually brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it! "Chad stood facing the other direction until I gently tapped him on the shoulder. Before I got him to turn around I whispered, 'I love you,' and as the words came out of my mouth, I could hear him begin to cry... His face was covered in tears... The embrace in that moment was so fulfilling."

Macey and Chad's wedding ceremony was decorated with Star Gazer flowers, which were the first flowers Chad had ever given Macey. Their afternoon reception was decorated with vintage glass collected from flea markets and wildflowers in vibrant shades of red, blue and white. Guests enjoyed cupcakes, as well as TCBY yogurt, which is one of Macey and Chad's favorite treats! At the end of the evening, guests gathered to send off the couple while doing "The Wave," an omage to Chad and Macey's love of sports and Chad's job as a football coach.
