Well, with this heat wave we've been having here in Los Angeles, I am so ready to spend my weekend down by the beach sipping cocktails and reading (with maybe just a little bit of work in between...) Given my weekend plans, I thought it would be rather appropriate to feature a nice seaside wedding today, complete with white sand dollars, starfish escort cards, blue linens and simple bright white flowers.
This couple was together for EIGHT YEARS before they got married. That's right. Eight. Nicole and Carlyle had their first date exactly eight years before their wedding day (to the exact day), at Carlyle's junior prom. The couple welcomed about 100 guests to their spring wedding at a dockside restaurant by the sea in York, Maine. The wedding was shot by photographer Elizabeth Stultz, who captured some amazing shots of Nicole and Carlyle with their wedding party down on the dock, by the water, among others.
Interestingly enough, many of the wedding details for the day were DIY; however, it wasn't the ceremony, the flowers, the cake or the favors that made the couple most nervous about the day!
"His vows floored me. He was so nervous about them for months. I had prepared myself that they would be meaningful because he put so much effort into them, but he was really freaking out that they wouldn't be great so I tried to have low hopes just in case. But they were beautiful and articulate and so perfectly 'us,' they brought me to tears," said Nicole.
So sweet! Much like Nicole and Carlyle's vows to one another, the ceremony and the reception did not disappoint! I thought this wedding was a great example of a perfectly successful DIY wedding. Beautiful and charming, without being too over-the-top, overworked or seemingly difficult. Nicole handled all of the flowers, consisting mostly of white carnations and hydrangeas, as well as the white floral centerpieces, blue rock candy wedding favors and the rest of the reception decor and signage. A couple of my favorite details included the awesome "cake" by Cranberry Island Kitchen, made of whoopie pies shaped like shells (YUM!) and the special sparkler send-off with a "getaway" by boat!
