Trends in Wedding Rings Tuesday, September 6, 2011 ~ 9:41 a.m.

Ever since I found my favorite GUCCI handbag for half off, I've been a HUGE proponent of online shopping. Honestly, I have trouble purchasing items in stores now because I'm afraid that I can find something better online! If not, at least I know that I've looked everywhere and investigated it thoroughly, right?

If you happen to be on the hunt for an engagement ring or a wedding band, then you should definitely explore your options online and check out Gemvara. It has an incredible selection of rings, and I love how there are so many ways to shop - you can divide the hundreds of ring options by styles (vintage- and antique-inspired, contemporary, celebrity style, etc.), by occasion, price, stone type, setting and more. Once you decide on a ring, you can also customize it by changing the center and accent gems and the precious metals. Gemvara offers free shipping (always a HUGE plus when online shopping), and because they recognize what an important purchase a wedding ring can be, they also allow returns within thirty days and offer a one year warranty.

As I mentioned previously, there are a ton of rings available on Gemvara, but there are definitely some growing trends out there that are worth exploring further. The first two I've listed below are my personal favorites! Which ring trend do you guys like most?

Rose Gold
I am telling you, rose gold is making a comeback in a huge way. I'm not sure if it ever technically "left," but it has definitely gotten the short end of the stick over the years in place of more traditional metals like yellow gold and platinum. However, rose gold is a gorgeous color metal that is certainly eye-catching, and looks great on its own as a solid band or with diamonds. Because it's not quite as popular as most precious metals, it can be tough to find a wide variety of styles to choose from; however, I was really impressed by Gemvara's amazing selection of rose gold rings in 14k and 18k gold.

Something Blue
I'm sure you know where this trend came from! William and Kate's recent betrothal, of course! As Kate is now sporting Princess Diana's blue sapphire engagement ring as her own, it's easy to see why women everywhere are crossing their fingers for a little something blue in their engagement rings and wedding bands. While I'm not usually a fan of copying the celebs, Gemvara actually has an awesome reproduction of Kate's sapphire engagement ring, in addition to a great selection of blue sapphire sparklers.

One note worth mentioning...Gemvara advises that you consider the hue of the sapphire before purchasing. A high quality sapphire stone should be a saturated medium blue that is bright and vibrant (lighter, baby blue and darker navy blue sapphires are going to be a lesser quality and thus, more affordable).

Diamonds All Around
Many engagement rings nowadays will have smaller diamonds that surround the one larger stone. What I love most about this look is how it can look totally classic or very modern. Plus, who wouldn't welcome the extra sparkle? The additional diamonds will enhance the karat size of your ring, or at the very least make the larger center stone it surrounds look larger.

Stackable Wedding Bands
Stackable rings have been a trend in fashion for a while now, but I absolutely LOVE the idea of having stackable wedding bands. It's definitely a "trend" that you don't have to worry about going out of style, either, since you can always wear these stackable rings individually, as well. If you're thinking about getting not one, but two wedding bands (one on each side of your engagement ring), then I would definitely look into the stackable rings by Gemvara. You can choose to match the bands, or go a little crazy with a couple of different styles. Just make sure that the style that you choose compliments your engagement ring, if you plan on wearing all of the rings together. I also think these stackable rings would make a great wedding anniversary gift - something that you can choose to wear as a wedding band with your engagement ring, or one you can wear on its own on a different finger! Dare I say that it could even become a recurring anniversary gift - a new stackable ring every five years you're married? ;)

Black Diamonds & Flat Wedding Bands
I thought it was only fair to include the guys in here at least once! Two very popular trends in men's wedding bands are the more contemporary flat ring styles (as opposed to one with rounded edges) and the integration of black diamonds into the ring design. While I tend to like the simpler metal wedding bands for the guys, black diamonds can be a great option if your groom is looking for some bling of his own. I expect black diamonds will become even more popular this coming season because of Kris Humphries' new wedding band, too! It's a bit more understated than the traditional diamond, and it's definitely a more masculine stone color choice, in my opinion.

Green and Conflict-Free Rings
Living in California, I try my best to stay aware and respectful of our environment. High quality jewelry, in particular, has the potential to last many lifetimes - it's easily reusable and the precious metals are even recyclable. All of Gemvara's precious metal rings are either recycled or responsibly mined, and crafted locally right here in the United States. You can also rest assured that Gemvara only uses top quality, conflict-free gems in all of their rings.

I know two gals, one with a black diamond, the other with rose gold and an nontraditional stone. Both are beautiful and I love their off-beat-ness. :)

I'm a bit fan of the diamonds all-around rings and sapphire engagement rings! So, so pretty! My cousin's husband proposed with a sapphire and diamond engagement ring about 10 years ago - I loved it then as much as I do now! And that was way before I had taken any interest in anything royal wedding related. The flat wedding bands are definitely intriguing, very unique.

I have seen thousands of rings but out of all of them, the stacked rings are by far the best looking! They give such variety to your choices and add more or loose one and you have a completely different outfit.
