Before I get started on the details surrounding this beautiful wedding, I just want to point out the absolutely amazing wedding photos by Nina Mullins Photography! I have so many favorites, and I really couldn't resist pointing them out to you guys first and foremost ;) The wedding dress shot has to be one of my favorites EVER...there's something so sweet and simple about it that also seems to represent the entire feel of the wedding so perfectly. While skimming through the photos, the black and white shot of the bride, Yasmin and her father is bringing tears to my eyes (you'll soon learn why) one minute, and the next minute, I'm cracking a smile at the funny photo of the two ring bearers! There are some really stunning shots of the couple - my favorite one being the one of them walking down the street holding hands. I also love the photo of the cake topper...how you can see Yasmin and her new husband, Derek, in the background? Genius! ...and last but not least, the shoe shot, which is made all-the-more fun with the bride and groom's fantastic shoe (and sock) choices.
Now that I've finished gushing, I want to make sure that I share this couple's amazing story and their perfect wedding day. After dating for four and a half years, Derek proposed to Yasmin on her 30th birthday. After enjoying a full day of fun activities, the couple was walking along the river when a large group of geese came waddling over the hill to get down to the water. The couple sat down to watch the geese, and it is there that Derek asked Yasmin to marry him. To honor the special memory, they each had "Goosebumps" engraved inside of their wedding bands, along with our wedding date. Clever, huh?! They also had a special "Geese in Love" print by PRRINT Antique on display beside their DIY guest book "Wishing Tree," at their intimate afternoon wedding reception.
A mere three months later, Yasmin and Derek were married at the intimate and very charming Greentree Tearoom in Lexington, Kentucky. The wedding was small, with a little over 50 guests there to celebrate, including Yasmin's father, who had been fighting leukemia, but was absolutely determined to walk his daughter down the aisle on her special day. "My father passed away of leukemia exactly 3 weeks after walking me down the aisle," said Yasmin. "It meant so much to me...to know that we had his blessing...We planned our wedding in exactly 3 months with the hope that he would be able to be there. I think it was meant to be."
Although they had a limited amount of time to plan their day, Yasmin and Derek were sure to make it their own with a few little DIY projects. Their wedding invitations were designed by Derek himself, who had several stamps made for the various parts of the invite, and also included their portraits personally drawn by Cara Lynn Kleid. Yasmin and Derek also took the time to paint those adorable little Kokeshi Dolls to use as their cake topper, and created their Wish Tree guest book and "Wedding" sign.
