Colorful, Handmade DIY Wedding Friday, February 10, 2012 ~ 9:12 a.m.

Happy Friday! Now, I don't usually feature weddings on Fridays, but this one seemed to be such a good fit for the weekend - super bright, happy and really family oriented - that I just couldn't resist! :) The bride and groom, Sammy and Griffin, really worked together with their family and friends to create a day that was memorable for both of them, and I think that a lot of couples out there could definitely pick up an idea or two from them.

The morning of the summer wedding, at 3 a.m., a couple of Sammy's family friends got up before dawn to begin cooking, which included pork and lamb that was actually cooked in the ground according to her family's Basque tradition. A few hours later, Sammy woke and met with another family friend, who worked on her hair for the big day, while the bride and groom's family and friends began setting up the tented reception area in the backyard. The reception tent and chairs were both rented, but all of the tables, linens and glassware were all DIY and borrowed from friends!

By 10 a.m., the bride and groom, and their bridal party were just about ready for photos with their photographer, Michelle Cross. Before their afternoon wedding ceremony was set to begin, Sammy met Griffin for a moment alone or a "First Look," as we like to call it :) This was Sammy's favorite moment of the day, looking back. "My favorite memory from my wedding day was seeing my husband-to-be for the first time," said Sammy. "...The entire wedding happened with the help of everyone that loved and supported Griffin and I. It was an overwhelming feeling, not only to be marrying my best friend, but to have the love and support of so many people that they were willing to take their time to make sure that our day was perfect."

Sammy and her six bridesmaids all held colorful handmade bouquets of gerbera daisies in bright pink, orange and green, all arranged by friends and family, along with the DIY floral centerpieces used at the reception later on that evening. Immediately following the church ceremony, Sammy and Griffin hopped into a red hot rod, which they had rented special for the day to take them back home to Sammy's parents' home for their reception. The evening kicked off with the Maid of Honor (Sammy's sister) and Best Man (Griffin's brother) each toasting the newly married couple, which was beautifully captured by their photographer, if you take a look below. I love how you can see Sammy's heartfelt reactions side-by-side - laughing hysterically one moment and crying the next. The rest of the evening was spent eating, drinking and dancing, before Sammy and Griffin took off for their honeymoon - a drive down to Sonoma wine country, where they visited the wineries, and then went further south to San Francisco for a Giants baseball game.
