Intimate Blue Lavender Wedding on a Family Farm Tuesday, April 24, 2012 ~ 8:00 a.m.

Good morning! :) Busy day today so I'm just going to get right to it!

Lindsey and John were married last summer by the "Big pond" on John's family farm, where John asked Lindsey out on a date for the first time. The sweet and intimate wedding was shot by Jessica Fike Photography in Daleville, Virginia. The ceremony actually took place on a long wooden dock right on the pond, and guests were seated beside the water on bales of hay covered with old quilts and blankets. The ceremony turned out perfect, although the day wasn't without its drama! "The power went out during our rehearsal dinner the night before, so the majority of my memories...leading up to the wedding were of us calling the electric company and making arrangements for a plan B in the event power wasn't restored," said Lindsey. "Fortunately, power was restored at noon, just in time for the stylist, flowers, and the cake to arrive!" After the intimate outdoor ceremony, the couple and their 50 guests took a short hay ride over to John and Lindsey's home, where they enjoyed food provided by Three Li'l Pigs Barbeque, which was where the couple actually had their first date during their senior year in college.

Lindsey and John took on many of the pretty details themselves using natural materials found on and around the farm. This included the stunning ceremony arbor, which was actually the old pre-lit archway used at their high school prom. To restore it, they removed the lights and covered the archway with bunches of white hydrangeas and grapevine found on a tree on the farm property. The cake stand was cut from a tree trunk, cut and sanded by the groom. The centerpieces included flowers and plants freshly cut from the couple's home garden, and the "Wedding wishing tree," used to display the guest book cards was a planted tree from inside their home. The pretty vintage china was the groom's grandmother's. At the end of the evening celebration, guests went home with plantable seeded paper in the shape of butterflies, each one placed inside a glass mason jar for them to eventually pot and watch it grow.
