Bridal Fitness on Paper - Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred Monday, April 2, 2012 ~ 4:00 p.m.

Jillian Michaels 30 day shred Hello again! As promised, I'm back this Monday afternoon with another bridal fitness review! A couple of weeks ago, I actually got a few new workout DVDs to review and share with you all, and the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is just one of them. This DVD is actually my first experience working out with Jillian Michaels...before this, I had only seen her on "The Biggest Loser," and so far, I like what I see. Today, I'm reviewing the Level 3 workout routine on the 30 Day Shred DVD.

Bridal Fitness Review - Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred

Overall: Three and a half diamond ring rating for bridal fitness exercise reviews
3.5 out of 5 diamonds
A solid workout to integrate into your fitness regime!

The Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is a 60 minute DVD workout that consists of three levels of 20-minute cardio and resistance training workouts. Each workout has a circuit structure, rotating through exercises that are geared toward strength, cardio and abs. You have no breaks in between circuits, either; you'll move from strengthening exercises like traditional pushups, to cardio moves like mountain climbers, to abs exercises including traditional situps. You'll repeat each circuit (strength, cardio & abs) twice, with no breaks, which basically keeps your heart rate up for the entire 20 minute duration.

Cost & Equipment: Four and a half diamond ring rating for bridal bootcamp exercise reviews
4.5 out of 5 diamonds
The Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred costs a mere $6.99 on Amazon, and all it requires is a set of small handweights and a mat.

This DVD workout was released four years ago, in 2008, and Jillian has released other workout DVDs since then, so the price of this particular DVD is pretty low. As I mentioned previously, there are three levels included on this DVD; each level sort of builds upon the other, so the workouts are pretty similar, and just vary slightly in difficulty. For that reason, you can choose to do all three levels throughout your week, but really, since Levels 1 and 2 are just easier than Level 3, I feel like I'll end up sticking with the one Level 3 workout most of the time. When you think about it this way, from my perspective, you're only really getting one good 20 minute workout on this DVD. For this reason, I don't think that I would personally pay much more than $10 (maybe) for this workout DVD. At a higher price, this DVD loses its value, in my opinion, but at a low $6.99, I'll take it!

Time Commitment: Four diamond ring rating for bridal bootcamp exercise reviews

At a mere 20 minutes per day, you'll get a good cardio and strengthening workout in...it doesn't get much easier than that!

After completing the Level 3 workout on the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred for the first time, I was kind of surprised that I was done already. Sure, I was tired by the end of the 20 minutes, but I loved how quickly the workout flew by for me. Especially when I had just done an hour long P90X2 workout the day before, but that's for another Monday ;) In 20 minutes, you'll get a solid workout that'll have you breathing hard, sweating and feeling the burn in your legs, arms and abs.

Level of Difficulty: Three and a half diamond ring rating for bridal bootcamp exercise reviews
3.5 out of 5 diamonds
While the level of difficulty is going to be different for everyone, I found the Level 3 workout to be challenging, without being impossible to finish, which I really liked.

Coming from a girl who does a cardio workout from the INSANITY workout program at least once a week, I liked that the Jillian Michaels' Level 3 workout was challenging, but not impossible. While the "I want to keel over and die" cardio sessions can be good for building endurance, I could never do them more than once a week, if that. The Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is a great workout DVD to have on hand, because it doesn't take too much time, and it's challenging, but it's not going to make me tired for the rest of the day.

There are three levels of workouts on this DVD, making it a pretty versatile workout program for people of all ages and endurance levels. I know that my mom does it, and finds the level 1 workout to be challenging; whereas I tend to stick with the level 3 routine. However, for that reason, if you're already pretty physically active, you probably won't get as much use out of all three workouts as a beginner would.

I think that one of the biggest challenges of this workout is that you don't stop! There are no breaks in between exercises, and when you're repeating each move twice in a row, your muscles will be BURNING. The first strength circuit alone, which includes plank moves and "Supermans," just about killed my shoulders. THEN, when you have to do a minute of Mountain Climbers right after that as part of the next cardio circuit? Yowza. No wonder Jillian has such amazing arms! The shoulders, along with the abs and thighs were all major areas of emphasis, which I think makes this workout best suited for women. Overall though, I found the workout challenging, but not so hard that you feel like you'll never be able to finish it.

Effectiveness: Three and a half diamond ring rating for bridal bootcamp exercise reviews
3.5 out of 5 diamonds
As far as the effectiveness of this workout, only time will tell, but I think it has potential.

As I mentioned previously, this workout DVD is probably going to be of most use to those of you out there looking to start exercising on a regular basis. If you're more of a beginner, you'll be able to work through all three levels of workouts feeling significantly challenged. You'll see improvement as you move up from level 1, to level 2, to level 3. However, if you already workout on a regular basis like I do, you will most likely only get use out of the level 3 routine. With this, chances are that I'm going to get used to doing this same workout regularly, and this DVD won't be quite as effective as I would like. For that reason, I plan on doing this workout a bit more sporadically, so that it remains challenging for me over the longer term!

Enjoyability: Four diamond rings rating for bridal bootcamp exercise reviews
4 out of 5 diamonds
With each workout clocked at about 20 minutes, you'll be busy and working hard, and then it'll be over before you can get too tired or bored!

The short amount of time that this workout requires is really why I enjoy it! I didn't get bored, and I was actually surprised when I realized that it was over already! With that being said though, a workout can be super short, but it absolutely must be challenging, or even a short 20 minute workout will end up being a waste of your time. The Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred packs a punch for only $6.99, and for a mere 20 minutes a day.
