Hey guys! TGIF! Sorry I'm a little bit late getting my post up today! To be honest, I actually had another post all lined up until I realized that this would be my last day to do something Mother's Day related. I've been all focused on Mother's Day being on Sunday, and I didn't even think about it today. Anyway, I didn't want to let the opportunity pass me by, so I spent some extra time this morning pulling together a special post for all of you fabulous mothers and daughters out there :)
One of the great things about my mom is she always has anything a girl could possibly need in her handbag. Seriously. She's sort of like Mary Poppins with that big bag...pulling out lamps and umbrellas and such. Haha, not really, but you get the picture! As a former Girl Scout Leader, my mom took the motto seriously - Always Be Prepared! She has her pill box, her fancy nail file, travel-sized hair brush and hair bands, compact mirror, antibacterial, lipstick, water bottle, hand lotion, floss, disposable tooth brushes, flashlight...she even seems to have chocolate on her at all times! Anything that you need, she has.
My mom seems to have a knack for finding anything super cool and travel sized, and she'll buy the most random things sometimes simply because she thinks it's "Cute." You know those little random chotchkies that they put by the registers at most grocery and department stores to get you to buy more stuff at the last minute? She's the reason that stores do that! While sometimes I just laugh at some of the things she has, I have to admit that there are times when I'm totally impressed by what she finds and end up getting one for myself. Several of the things in my purse, in fact, are either gifts from my mom, or items that I've purchased after seeing hers!
Being the super duper generous woman that my mom is, she is always giving my brother and I things that we never knew that we needed. God bless her, every year, I get at least one crazy flashing light, whistle, or some other item that is meant to help keep me safe. I've actually included a couple of safety items in my gift guide below, just for her! Every Christmas, she would always (and still does, if I'm being honest =P) fill our stockings with toiletries. She has even begun doing this for my husband and my stepdad! Body wash, razors, toothbrush and toothpaste, socks, deoderant, undershirts, you name it, it's probably in there at Christmas time! And really, why not give gifts that you'll actually use, rather than just a bunch of crap that you'll forget about in five minutes? It's a great idea, to be honest, and I imagine that I'll probably do the same thing for my future children once they're a bit older.
For all of these reasons, I've decided to do a special "Mother's Day Handbag Essentials Gift Guide," in honor of my fabulous mama. Because really, who doesn't need to add or replace a thing or two in her handbag? Plus, all of these items can be purchased this weekend in time for Mother's Day on Sunday, and many of the items are easy to find and inexpensive. Assemble a basket (or a purse?) of these handbag essentials and your mom will definitely be impressed by the level of thought you put into her gift this Mother's Day.
