Kathy and Brett were each other's first loves, high school sweethearts, and dated throughout college down in Southern California. When it came time to get married, the couple had been enduring a long-distance relationship (and engagement) - she in New York and he in California. Talk about standing the test of time! When I first saw this wedding, beautifully shot by Michelle Chiu, I was surprised by two things. One, there were a whopping 430 guests in attendance, and two, the whole wedding was practically homemade! All of the flowers were purchased from Costco and arranged by a friend, Kathy made her own veil and Brett's pretty lace boutonniere, as well as all of the paper fan decorations, centerpieces and their wedding invitations.
The wedding ceremony was especially touching, with personally written vows recited by both Kathy and Brett. The bride's favorite memory of the day was actually during the ceremony, "...we exchanged our vows and washed each other's feet in remembrance of Jesus Christ and symbolic of our commitment to serve each other all the days of our lives," said Kathy.
One of my all-time favorite things about this wedding? Michelle's totally awesome Star Wars photos starring Kathy and Brett, who is a major Star Wars fan, rocking out with (what else?) lightsabers! The couple also chose to make a donation to Zoe International and World Vision in lieu of traditional wedding favors.
