Happy October, guys! I can't believe that Fall is here! I, for one, am happy to see things cooling down because I am not a fan of the 90-plus degree weather we had here in Colorado this Summer. The new season makes me want (and NEED) to go shopping for more clothes! Jack doesn't have much cold weather clothing that fits him, and I certainly don't, since I was much thinner last Fall than I am now =P Still have about 25 pounds of baby weight to lose... fun. stuff. The only thing worse than trying to lose weight is dealing with a teething baby. My poor Jack, who just turned 6 months on Saturday (yay!), just had his first tooth cut through yesterday, and it has been a long time coming. Dale and I were relieved to see it come through though, to be honest; hopefully, that means that there is a break for all of us in sight! Until the next set of teeth come through, that is!
Anyway, I happen to have baby on the brain (as usual), but A Paper Proposal is all about the weddings, after all! Today, I'm sharing Shannon and Derek's garden wedding in Hamilton, New Jersey, decorated in pretty periwinkle. The couple handled many of the decorations themselves with the help of family and friends, including the centerpieces, favors, ceremony decor, wedding cake topper and the guest book. "To keep with our garden theme, we had our guests sign in on little bird [cut-outs]," said the bride. "After signing in, each guest hung their bird on a branch that was stationed in a vase, resembling a tree. All well-wishes birds and tree were then put into a birdcage, which originally housed our gifts the day of the wedding. Now, we have a birdcage with all the little well-wish birds as a decorative piece in our house to always remind us of our special day!"
Shannon's favorite memory of the day was the first look. "As Derek turned around and we looked at each other for the first time on our wedding day, we were both in awe. We hugged, teary-eyed, and then proceeded to read each other letters that we had written to one another, in lieu of writing our own vows. This was such a beautiful, intimate and emotional moment that Derek and I shared. We took turns reading each other's letters, helping one another when emotion took over and laughing and smiling at memories of our past and glances of our future. It was a moment that we will both remember forever." I totally love this idea of exchanging notes during the first look. It's a great alternative for any couples who want to share their intimate thoughts and emotions on the big day without having to recite them in front of 100 guests - or 80 guests in Shannon and Derek's case :)
