Two years ago today, I married my very best friend in the world, the greatest guy that I know and the soon-to-be father of my child. I woke up this morning thinking, Wow! Exactly two years ago, we were both waking up down in sunny Mexico to get married, and now today, we are just about two months away from having our first child together...Our son, who will be the most perfect example of our love and commitment to one another, and an absolutely beautiful blend of Dale and myself. He'll be 25% California, 25% Michigan and 50% Colorado! (Inside joke ;) And while getting married was definitely a big deal, I know that raising this child will certainly be the most monumental thing that we ever do together. It really is crazy how our lives just swiftly move along, isn't it?
Dale and I actually have something in common with the couple that I'm featuring here today, in that the bride, Jackie is from California and the groom, Scott, is from Michigan! The two dated for four years before Scott proposed to Jackie during a trip back to Michigan for Christmas. Scott actually popped the question with a beautiful green diamond on a horse-drawn carriage ride through the charming town of Frankenmuth. I remember Dale taking me there just after we got engaged in the fall of 2010 :)
In September, Jackie and Scott were married on the beach in much warmer and beautiful San Clemente, California. As you can see from the stylish photos by Andrew Abajian Creatives, the entire wedding had a very laid back, rustic feel to it, with many of the details being homemade or collected from local thrift shops. The wooden signs, centerpieces, glass bottles and lanterns were created by the bride; while the other one-of-a-kind items like the vintage typewriter and wooden crates were sourced from thrift shops and even Craigslist! Oh, and the bride's shoes? LOVE! The groom even left a cute little message for his bride on the bottom of one of the heels :)
Jackie and Scott were married by Scott's uncle, who was especially ordained for the day and included a special surprise for the couple during the beach ceremony. "Both of our parents, who have each been married for over 30 years, were included in the ceremony and were asked to come up while we said our vows. He had each of our parents place their hands on a bible with ours as we said our vows, linking us all in a circle. Each set of parents got to keep the bible used in the ceremony, which was meaningful and very memorable. Such a special addition to the I do's!" said the bride.
