Before I get started on today's featured wedding, I wanted to observe this day, September 11th, which will forever go down in history as one of the most devestating in our history. However, the strength and unity that arose from that awful day and the precious lives lost is what I will remember most. I remember when the towers fell, I was sitting in 10th grade English class; some students were crying and outwardly devestated, while others, like myself, were so numb. I really didn't understand the gravity of what had happened until I saw it for myself later that day. Everyone deals with grief differently, and everyone will take something different away from what happened on 9/11. But I think it's safe to say that we will never forget and never stop learning from that horrible day.
Today, I am happy to share Meghan and Patrick's whimsical yellow and gray wedding at the beautiful Independence Harbor in Massachusetts. The bride, Meghan was gracious enough to share hers and Patrick's story here today, along with the photos by AMW Studios.
"Growing up in a small suburban town outside of Boston, Pat and I always knew of each other. But it wasn't until one fate filled day when we were paired together in sophomore Spanish class that we finally developed a friendship. It wasn't love at first sight, as we were only teenagers at the time, but as the weeks passed, our friendship blossomed into young love."
"High school was soon over and we were off to college in different states. Although we saw each other every few weeks, we were both grateful when the four years were over and we could be reunited again. Seven years from the day we started dating, while walking through one of our favorite parks in Boston, Pat got down on one knee and proposed. It seemed like destiny that we should be married one year later on that same anniversary date, August 11th."
"I have always dreamed of getting married outside. There is something magical about getting married surrounded by nature and the people you love most in the world. When I first visited my wedding venue, I got butterflies in my stomach. It was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. The colors were vibrant and the atmosphere was surreal, and I immediately knew this was the place we were meant to be married.
As I was planning the details of the wedding, I wanted it to be whimsical and filled with small details that the guests would remember. From the homemade jam favors with jars labeled, 'Spread the Love,' to the pinwheel seating cards and the fan programs that my wonderful family and friends spent days helping me create, I wanted the guest to be mesmerized and make it a night they would never forget."
"On the day of the wedding, everything came together seamlessly. The only thing left to complete my perfect day was the weather. The forecast called for rain, so the entire day was spent looking out the window at the ominous gray clouds and waiting, hoping and praying. As to leave no stone unturned, I had a backup plan; all of the bridesmaids had yellow umbrellas that I purchased for this very reason. Fortunately, the outdoor ceremony came and went without a drop of rain. The day went by in a blur, but some of the more memorable moments were the photo booth, my sisters and brother-in-law surprising us with a performance of the song, "I Want to Grow Old with You," and finally, having Pat's Papa officiate the ceremony. There is something truly spiritual about the person marrying you being so profoundly and sincerely happy for you."
