When I received photos of today's beautiful spring wedding from photographers Micah and Megan, I fell in love with the wedding pretty much instantly. Why, you ask? First of all, the last three photos I've included below are absolutely STUNNING, so don't miss those. Second, it kind of reminds me of my own wedding! While Kevin and Maria's wedding is absolutely lovely and unique in its own right, we did share the same navy blue and yellow color palette, and we even used the same anchor monogram (as pictured on the seating chart in one of the photos below). I was pretty excited, to say the least (I'm a bit of a geek that way, I guess)!
I also love the newly married couple's proposal story, which actually took place at one of my husband's favorite places ever - Hearst Castle. While on an evening tour of the historical property nestled up in the hills in Northern California, Kevin stopped his girlfriend, Maria for a private moment away from the rest of the tour group. Maria, who is just about to complete her Master's degree in Library Science, by the way, was happily surprised when Kevin dropped down on one knee and proposed to her in the estate's remarkable main library.
Several months later this past March, Kevin and Maria welcomed 120 guests to their wedding at the historic Thursday Club in San Diego, California. Located above the Sunset Cliffs in Point Loma, the clubhouse boasts beautiful Spanish architecture and well kept gardens, as well as panoramic ocean views from the property's adjoining terraces. Kevin and Maria's afternoon wedding ceremony was held outdoors in the garden, where guests were surrounded by tall green arbors and romantic garden topiaries. All of Kevin and Maria's guests were offered white umbrellas just in case it rained, although no one ended up needing one, after all!
What also struck me about this wedding? It's kind of rare that I adore the groomsmen's attire as much as I do! The guys were all decked out in preppy blue suits and striped dress shirts by Hugo Boss, along with fun yellow ties from Tux and Tulle. Maria's heels from J.Crew were a perfect match to the day's navy blue and yellow color palette, which was also showcased in her lovely spring bouquet of bright yellow roses, ranunculus and tulips. Maria donned a Rosa Clara strapless A-line wedding gown with a classic veil by Simple Beauty, and topped off her look with a custom made navy blue lace shrug from Holly Stalder for the reception.
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails before moving inside for the dinner reception. The reception tables were decorated with navy blue linens, and topped with small clusters of bright yellow flowers in milk glass vases that essentially lit up the whole room. Maria made the adorable little chalkboard table numbers and chair markers herself, along with the couple's gift card box made using a vintage leather suitcase. Guests took home personalized bookmarks as favors (an homage to the couple's proposal story and Maria's professional pursuits in library science), which Maria had made herself using bookmark sleeves purchased from The Vinyl Envelope.
At the end of the night, Kevin and Maria left the reception with the last of their wedding guests on a bright red double-decker bus. The energetic group continued their celebration at the Hard Rock Hotel in Downtown San Diego, where the couple was also planning to spend their wedding night.
