Hey guys! Happy Tax Day! Dale and I actually let it go right down to the wire, and didn't mail off our state tax returns until today, haha. Admittedly, things have been a little crazy lately. Thankfully, I have some fabulous wedding professionals to help me out with the blog! Today, I'm happy to welcome Studio Sequoia photography to APP, here to share ten inspiring theme ideas for your engagement session.

If you and your sweetheart love to cook together at home, go out to eat at local restaurants or have a knack for desserts, this is perfect for you. If your favorite restaurant is a low key, local place (a taco shop), they might allow a photographer in to capture candid moments. If not, then maybe a romantic dinner or picnic at the beach, or even baking cupcakes in your kitchen at home.
The Sports Fanatics
If you both would rather be in the bleachers at the game or crashed on your couch watching monday night football, this is for you! Grab your ball and head outside for a friendly game, cuddle up on your living room couch and watch a game or stop by your favorite bar and watch a game while grabbing a beer.
If your fiance is in the United State Military, you may want to show your pride and love for their service by using his/her shoes, hats, dog tags, flags or handmade mementos. You can make beautiful photographs that are timeless, classic and full of emotion. Go to a memorable spot and capture some heartfelt candid moments.
Why not take it back to childhood? Head down to the beach and make a sandcastle, blow bubbles, fly a kite, play make-believe or hold a bunch of rainbow colored balloons. When you look back at these fun memories, unique and candid photo moments are bound to happen!
Home Sweet Home
Like hanging out on the couch, working in your garden, cuddling up with a good book or playing board games? Stay at home and do your own thing for your engagement session. When capturing your personality in your engagement photos, there is no better venue than your home; it's where you love to spend time together.
If your dog or other pet is a very special part of your family, include them in this hugely exciting life change. Take them with you to a favorite hangout, play with them at the dog park or take them to a dog beach. You can have fun with signs stating your upcoming wedding event, as well.
For your engagement shoot, why not rock out your inner nerd? I know I'm a nerd to the core! How romantic would it be to go to your favorite library, bookstore, comic book store, computer store, or coffee shop and grab fun candids? Places with a lot going on in the background can add texture and color, and make for a fun photograph.
A musically themed engagement shoot could be perfect if you like hanging out at your local bar or club to dance, play in a band, love concerts or just enjoy spending quiet nights at home with your record player and your sweetie. Have a music themed session and dance in a public space, listen to records, go to a record store, use music lyrics, etc. There are so many interesting things you can do with a music theme! Be creative!
If you love road trips, being on airplanes or riding in trains, consider sharing your love of traveling in your engagement photos. Take photos at a train station, airport, or create a vintage set with suitcases and other items. You can go modern or vintage, and have a lot of fun with this one. Use maps, paper airplanes, compasses, suitcases, globes, etc.
If you are looking for something truly unique and one-of-a-kind, then take the outside, in. Be extremely creative and think outside of the box by placing a living room setup right beside a seaside cliff or pose for photos on a sofa in the middle of a forest. Use your imagination and paint your own canvas depicting whatever environment you want to be shot in. This is dramatic and so much fun to do!
