Whenever I receive a submission from the bride herself, I'm always super excited. You can just feel her excitment and pride when she describes her day, and it reminds me of how it felt to plan my own wedding just about five years ago. Caitlin was kind enough to share her romantic and rustic wedding by the water in Rhode Island.
"Throughout the planning process, we always came back to two themes: Romance and family," described Caitlin. Her and her fiance, Steve had trouble finding the right venue to suit their vision, but eventually selected the Squantum Association property in Steve's home state. "The historic mansion we took pictures in beforehand had such a vintage feel, and the wooden boathouse for the reception with the twinkling lights was just rustic enough. Plus, you can't beat getting married right on the water."
With their romantic venue all picked out, Caitlin and Steve put a lot of thought into how to integrate their families into their big day. The bride's uncle officiated the day, and had a couple of family members do readings at the ceremony. The cocktail hour tunes were from a CD that Caitlin's uncle made for the whole family before he passed away. The donut tower served in lieu of a wedding cake was from Steve's favorite local donut shop as a kid.
What really drew me to Caitlin and Steve's wedding was the genuine warmth in the wedding photos by Jessica Osber. It seems to me that the couple achieved exactly what they set out to do with their special day. "Was the day perfect? Of course things didn't go exactly as planned. My cousin's 7-month-old threw up on one of my bridesmaids, the timing of the transportation was off, and my uncle forgot to tell everyone to, "Please be seated." But, it is these imperfections, these silly stories, this whole weekend full of the details of our relationships (and of course, the donuts) that made our day absolutely perfect."
