Elegant and Rustic Wedding at Family Ranch Tuesday, December 3, 2013 ~ 10:00 a.m.

When I first read Rachael and Brad's proposal story, I teared up. There was something about Brad's words that was just so perfect and touching. "After five hysterical years together, Brad woke up on January 1st, 2012 and asked me if I wanted to start the year off by visiting the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma again; it was the first place we ever traveled to together. After getting lost among the animal refuge, we found ourselves on the top of a mountain with a 360 view. When I asked him, 'Where should we go from here?' he replied on one knee, 'Rachael I love you. Why don't you decide?'"

Nearly a year and a half later, Rachael and Brad were married in the spring at a family ranch in Beaumont, Texas. Photographed by Sarah e. Evans and coordinated by Event Solutions, the wedding ceremony was held in front of a treehouse and the reception, hosted inside a barn on the ranch property. The rustic and elegant look of the day pulled together using hand dyed peach doilies, glass wine bottles, and small bunches of spray roses, delphiniums, baby's breath, dragon snaps and dianthus. Rachael and Brad worked with family and friends to create the wedding favors, seasoned pecans picked from the family farm, as well as the doilies, wedding signage, barn lighting and reception flowers.

When I asked Rachael what advice she'd give to other brides currently planning, she said something I've never heard before from the hundreds of brides I've asked in previous years. "Create as many opportunities as you can to involve friends and family. I spent many great nights with friends creating things for the wedding and then got to smile during the wedding when I saw them pointing to the various things they had helped with and telling stories like why that doily was more neon pink than blush. I wanted family and friends to feel like they knew each other after they left; I've always felt strongly that you're marrying your husband and two families, so the emphasis should be there, too. This also took away my tendency to want to control too much. If something wasn't perfect, it didn't matter because there was a hilarious story behind the imperfections."
